„Running off-the-beaten track“ - let's find your own way on the trail (Daniel Jochum)
The trails of Oberstdorf / Kleinwalsertal are the training area and the playground of Daniel Jochum, Parick Caprano and Florian Schütz. Let's introduce our NTC trail running team and talk about, what drives them in trail running and what are their goals for the next season?
News and updates of our NTC trail running crew can be found on our NTC Facebook Fanpage.

How did you get into trail running?I got on the trails from the street. In the beginning I mainly did street running, then I met Daniel and so I came to mountain running and trail running.
What's your favorite trail around Oberstdorf? My favourite trail is actually the Heilbronner Weg via the Waltenberger hut and the Kemptener hut.
What are your goals for the season? To finally get rid of an ankle injury and: the Walser UltraTrailChallenge and the Allgäu Panorama Ultra Trail as preparation for the possible participation in the German 24h Trailrunning Championship.
Hometown: Riezlern, Kleinwalsertal
How did you get into trail running?Since the age of 10 I'm member of the Tri-Team Kleinwalsertal and I'm coached by Seppi Neuhauser. He was and still is my great role model and inspired me at such a young age for the many facets of running. When I was 14, I took part in my first mountain run, the Widdersteinlauf in Baad.
What's your favorite trail around Oberstdorf? My coach Seppi affectionately calls trail running "running in the moment" - that's why it doesn't matter on what trail you're on.
What are your goals for the season? With a little bit of luck I will be able to compete for the Austrian national team at the WMRA World Longdistance Mountain Running Championship in Slovenia (June 18) and the ITRA Trail World Championship in Portugal (October 29).
In between I would like to take the Dolomites Skyrace (17 July), the Walser Trail-Challenge (31 July) and the Gore-Tex Transalpine-Run (4 - 10 September).
How did you get into trail running?I didn't used to run at all, I was more into mountain biking from time to time. I watched a few climbing videos on YouTube and by chance I came across a video of the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc 2011. Totally fascinated by this adventure, I wanted to try this way of walking on and around the mountain. At the latest when I moved to Oberstdorf I was totally catched by trail running.
What's your favorite trail around Oberstdorf?I love the steep trail up to Oberstdorf's local mountain, the Schattenberg. I like to run the whole ridge over to Höfatsblick. I prefer loneliness, steep face views and many chamois.
What are your goals for the season?Stay healthy, experience many beautiful hours in the mountains, hopefully realize a few of my private "projects" (high altitude trails in the Allgäu and Lechtal, Allgäu Seven Summits) and of course quick legs at the UTMB end of August.
